Nothing can bring you peace entirely yourself. Ralph Waldo Emerson, the famous transcendentalist author, states this in his essay Self-Reliance, woozyustrating his ism of disembodied spirit. Emerson is precept that if people rely on others for everything, than they will never unfeignedly be happy. And, in order to live a fulfilling life people have to distinguish themselves through their avow opinions and views. self-confidence is being an individual and relying on ones own judgment and abilities. When one is self-reliant they do not convey anyone to tell them how to think or how to act. Self-reliance also way they do not bend under peer pressure.
Eleanor Roosevelt epitomizes this philosophy of self-reliance. However, Eleanor was not always the confident and self-reliant person that she is pictured to be. When she first married Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and for several years thereafter, she tested to be the wife and mother that everyone expected (Fleming 24). She always did what Franklin and her mother-in-law told her and never tried to be an individual (Fleming 24). That all changed when she discovered her husbands infidelity. Franklin had just returned ill from over seas when Eleanor found letters to Franklin from Lucy Mercer (his mistress, her secretary) (Fleming 34).
She was unloading his bags and that is when she discovered the do it letters.
