The field trip portrayed a delightful fluff of preservation of the old and new urban planning. The region of arena was an area in Corktown called Old Town, fixed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The neck of the woods was filled predominantly of two or three floor tall buildings preserving its old town feel, which was rarely seen in forthwiths fast paced environment where space was vital and high-rises were prevalent. The area, however, as well consisted of numerous older warehouses that have been converted to lofts or offices which showed advancements in urban planning.
The area of study consisted of the ten-blocks and was founded as the Town of York in 1797. For a century, this was the heart of the community. The first permanent urban center hall was built here in the 1840s following the incorporation of the City of Toronto in 1834. The Great Fire of 1849 destroyed or dishonored most of the Old Town which led the area into degenerate in the early 1900s. The revitalization began in 1967 when Canadas 100th day of remembrance was celebrated with the restoration of St. Lawrence Hall. The primary employment was distilleries, breweries and brick yard.
Other historical land marks include; (1) George dark-brown College, St. James Campus situated in Adelaide Street, George Street and King Street, (2) St.
James Cathedral primed(p) Church Street and George Street, (3) The Torontos First Post Office located along Adelaide Street.
George Brown College
George Brown College is an excellent example of industrial architecture and advancement in urban planning. This wonderful plot of land of construction incorporates the 1874 factory built at Duke (Adelaide) and Frederick Streets by Christie, Brown and Co, the largest biscuit manufacturer in Canada. The building was initially three-storey, exactly through the years it was greatly enlarged and altered and in 1953 it was occupied by William Coutts Co., manufacturers of greeting cards and paper products.
