Copper Cycle Lab

Laboratory 5 A Cycle of Copper Reactions

first appearance:
This experiment showed the change of squealer equip to different chemic substance properties, and back to copper through several different chemical reactions. The purpose is to recover the same quantity of copper as the amount started with.

Procedure:
First, 5.0 grams of pure copper wire was obtained. The wire was bright and shiny and did not need to be cleaned. The copper wire was coiled and place into a 250 mL beaker. 4.0 mL of nitric acid (HNO3) was added into the beaker. When all of the copper had dissolved, deionized water was added to the beaker until it was fractional full.
Second, 30 mL of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) was added to the resultant to cast a precipitate. The solution was stirred when the NaOH was added. The solution was move blue.
Third, the solution was heated until the color changed from blue to clear. The solution was stirred to stay bumbing. When the trans defining was complete, the beaker was taken off the burner and the precipitate was allowed to settle. The supernatant transparent was whence decanted. 200 mL of hot deionized water then added to the beaker and again decanted to remove the excess NaNO3.
Fourth, 15 mL of sulfuric acid (H2SO4) was added to the precipitate.

The solution was being stirred during the reaction. The solution turned blue.
Fifth, 2.0 grams of 30-mesh zinc metal was added to the solution. The solution was stirred until the solution became clear. When the formation of gas had slowed down, the liquid was decanted into a waste container. (If any unreacted zinc remained, 10 mL of hydrochloric acid would have been added and warmed.) Only the precipitate, now, remained in the beaker. A spatula was used to transfer it into was watch glass. The precipitate was swear out with 5 mL of deionized water and decanted. The precipitate was then rinse with ethanol and decanted. The watch glass was placed on a burner to dry the precipitate. When dry, the solid was placed into a...If you want to get a full essay, order it on our website: Ordercustompaper.com
