To my understanding of the post, there ar two zones, the Canal district & the River Zone. These two zones are defined by the bodies of water that reside in that particular area, but to each one has their specific sub zone regions. For example, the Canal Zone is make up of the canal itself, the bike path, the couple, the existing parking lot, and GW Prkwy. The River Zone includes the field, the shore, the boat dock, and the River itself. There are also certain paths that already exist and pull people through the two Zones. mavin of these paths is the bike trail, and the others are the River & GW Prkwy. These three conduits allow people to function tangential to site. However, the only place on the site that a lateral path exists is the bridge over the canal & it in a sense takes the people traveling parallel to the site to turn into the River Zone or the Canal Zone. This small bridge path develops a crossroads that leads to decision making by part of the user and his/her destination or activity. This link is the earth of my project. I want to create more of these links inwardly the site by means of outdoor program spaces that case and connect the Canal Zone to the River Zone.
These links begin to carry people into a field of outdoor programs, combined with privileged conditioned programs clustered throughout the site. The outdoor programs range from pastime and sports fields to pools and fishing decks, to things like picnic areas and outdoor stages; only the while keeping the layer of boat storages and construction areas unobstructed and easy to access by the crew teams. The goal is to create a series of programmatic encounters that also influence the circulation or groupings of distinct users. This combination of indoor and outdoor programs creates an urban condition in what was once a blank field. My first steps are to lay a grid of lines that are 50 ft apart on the site.
