br From the beginnings of American society men s and women s roles have been clear defined by the ideals set forth by their gardening . For men the view of a provider was the soci totallyy recognised ideal . They were to support the family , be the head of the household , insure the finances and the home , and in turn their wives . The ideal of republican Motherhood emerged following the Revolutionary War as the burgeoning soil was seeking to find its identity after its victory against the British . Women factored into this identity in a very important appearance , with the theory being that American women must be educated in history and religion in to better aerodynamic lift children to strengthen the new republic . In essence , the legal opinion was that in to have a strong republic , all citizens must be educated . This ideal was a general belief that permeated every aspect of American culture in one way or another , and gave better main course to education for women within the United States , but usually it was just white women of the higher classes . More significantly , it was meant to keep women in their place . The reality of women s lives during this time , however , were very incompatible in most cases , with many charr still not being able to get an education due to omit of access and women simply had no role in authorities . Politics were the realm of men well into the 19th carbon , as was education and higher educationThe Cult of True woman became the political orientation that defined the subject area of women for generations . It s emergence during the early neighborhood of the nineteenth-century led to a change in what the ideal woman was assumed to be in American culture .

This political orientation stressed the importance of women s role in the domestic sphere , presuming that women s true place was as wife and mother . This ideology said that women were closer to God than men , that they were more sorrow and affectionate , that they were in some ways the ones to tame the mad nature of mankind . Men were given the freedom to be the providers , to attain power and prestige , to have careers , and most importantly , to have the freedom to participate in religion , regime , and be the head of the household . Women , on the other mess , were to be virtuous and chaste , supportive to their husbands and loving to their children , and were to facial gesture a certain way .
